Wide Push Up Counter: Hands-Free Wide Push Up Rep Counting

Animated demo of the Wide Push Up as the FitnessBruh app shows it

A wider grip changes how the lift feels but not what the camera needs, so this wide push up counter follows your elbows and calls each full rep out loud. Set the phone low and let it do the tallying.

Both arms are read together, which means there's no one-arm mode. Place your hands wider than your shoulders during the five-second countdown and begin.

Phone setup

Put the phone on its side (landscape) at floor level, lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away. Your whole body, head to feet, needs to be inside the frame.

Angle yourself halfway between side-on and facing the phone, which keeps both arms in view. Your hands go wider than your shoulders.

How FitnessBruh counts it

What gets measured is the angle at your elbow, running from shoulder to elbow to wrist. You start at the top with straight arms, reach the far position at the bottom with your elbows bent, and finish by pressing back to straight arms; the number is spoken as you return to the top.

Both arms are read together. There's no one-arm mode. A wide push up that never gets down to the far position isn't counted, so give every rep its full depth.

Counting only starts once you've been down in position for a moment, so getting into your wide hand position adds no rep. Get up mid-set and counting stops until you're back down. A steady view of your shoulders and hips comes first.

FAQ

How wide should my hands be for a wide push up?

Place them wider than your shoulders and keep that spot for the whole set. Choose a width that still lets you lower with a clear elbow bend.

Where should I put my phone for wide push ups?

Lay it sideways on the floor with the lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, and turn your body halfway between side-on and facing it. That way both arms stay in view as you lower.

Is there a one-arm wide push up mode?

No. Both arms are read together, so bend and press them at the same time. A rep is counted when you return to straight arms at the top.
