Hips high and head down between your hands: that is the shape this pike push up counter watches. The phone sits low on the floor and follows your elbows through every press.
Both arms are read together. There's no one-arm mode. Get into your upside-down V during the five-second countdown and the coach will count each rep out loud.
Phone setup
Lay the phone sideways (landscape) on the floor, lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away. Everything from your hands to your feet has to fit in the frame.
Set your body halfway between side-on and facing the phone to keep both arms in view. Raise your hips into an upside-down V and lower your head between your hands.
- Get your hips up into the V before the countdown ends, then glance at the preview to confirm your hands and feet are inside the frame.
Form cues
- Build the upside-down V. Hips high with your arms and legs fairly straight keeps your shoulders working against your body weight.
- Head between your hands. Lower your head toward the floor between your hands so your elbows bend deeply at the bottom.
- Walk your feet in. A shorter gap between your hands and feet lifts your hips and keeps the V steep.
- Press back to straight arms. Straight arms at the top complete the rep, so finish each press before you lower again.
Common mistakes
- Flattening into a push up. If your hips sink toward a standard push up, you've left the pike. Walk your feet in and push your hips back up toward the ceiling.
- Stopping above the bottom. A press that never gets your head down toward the floor between your hands doesn't reach the far position and isn't counted.
- Bouncing out of the bottom. Pause for a beat at the lowest point, then press smoothly back to straight arms.
How FitnessBruh counts it
FitnessBruh follows the angle at your elbow, shoulder to elbow to wrist. Straight arms in the pike are the start, your head lowered between your hands with the elbows bent is the far position, and pressing back up to straight arms completes the rep.
Both arms are read together. There's no one-arm mode. The number is spoken as you return to straight arms at the top of the press.
Counting only starts once you've been down in the pike position for a moment, so getting into the V adds no rep. Get up mid-set and the count stops until you're back down in the pike. Your shoulders and hips also need a steady view.
FAQ
What is a pike push up?
A push up with your hips high in an upside-down V, lowering your head between your hands. It leans on your shoulders more than a flat push up does.
Where do I put my phone for pike push ups?
Lay it sideways (landscape) on the floor with the lens low, about 2 meters (6 feet) away. Angle yourself halfway between side-on and facing it, and both arms stay in view.
Does moving into the pike position add a rep?
No. Counting only starts once you've been down in position for a moment, so getting into the V adds nothing to your total.
