A high plank is held on straight arms, and this high plank timer runs the clock only while your whole position holds together. Line up shoulders, hips and knees, keep your arms long, and hold.
If your arms bend you hear “Arms straight”, and the clock waits for you to fix it. Straighten up and it resumes where it stopped.
Phone setup
Prop the phone sideways (landscape) at floor level, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, for a side view. Your whole body, head to feet, needs to sit inside the frame.
Get into your high plank side-on to the phone, with your arms straight, your hands under your shoulders and your body in one straight line.
- Kneeling or going onto all fours doesn't start the clock, so be in a full plank before the countdown ends.
Form cues
- Hands under your shoulders. Stack your wrists directly beneath your shoulders so your arms carry your weight in a vertical line.
- Lock your arms straight. Keep your elbows long and your shoulders pushed high above your wrists.
- Make one straight line. Shoulders, hips and knees stay in a single line from the side.
- Stay level. Your torso should stay roughly level, since standing up never counts.
Common mistakes
- Dropping to your forearms. Bending your arms breaks the high plank, and the coach says “Arms straight”. The forearm version has its own timer on the plank page.
- Piking your hips. Raising your hips into a peak breaks the straight line from shoulders to knees. Lower them back into line.
- Kneeling to rest. Going onto all fours doesn't start the clock. Get back into the full plank to resume.
How FitnessBruh times it
The clock runs only while three checks hold at once. Your body makes a straight line from shoulders through hips to knees, so a pike breaks it; your torso stays roughly level; and your arms stay straight, with your shoulders held high above your wrists.
It starts after you've held the plank for a moment, and that settling moment isn't credited. Slip out of the arm position and you hear “Arms straight”; for any other break, the coach calls your form. Fix it and the clock resumes from where it stopped, held time kept.
When tracking drops or you leave the frame, the clock waits without logging a break. Hit the target time and the set ends, with every break recorded.
FAQ
What's the difference between this and the plank timer?
This one is a high plank on straight arms. The forearm version has its own timer on the plank page.
Why did my high plank clock stop?
One of the checks slipped. If your arms bent you hear “Arms straight”; for a pike or a torso that isn't level, the coach calls your form. Fix it and the clock resumes.
Does kneeling start the timer?
No. Kneeling or going onto all fours doesn't start the clock. Get into a full plank on straight arms first.
