Glute Bridge Counter: Hands-Free Glute Bridge Rep Counting

Reps · Glutes, Hamstrings · Bodyweight (a mat helps)

Animated demo of the Glute Bridge as the FitnessBruh app shows it

Lying on your back with your feet planted, you drive your hips up and lower them again. This glute bridge counter watches your hips from the floor and calls out each rep, so your focus can stay on the squeeze.

Both legs work together here. Set the phone down, lie back during the five-second countdown, then start lifting.

Phone setup

Put the phone sideways (landscape) on the floor, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, for a side view of you. Your whole body, head to feet, has to be inside the frame.

Lie side-on to the phone on your back, with your knees bent and your feet flat, close to your hips.

How FitnessBruh counts it

The main measurement is the angle at your hip, from shoulder to hip to knee. Lying with your hips down is the start, a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the top is the far position, and lowering your hips all the way down completes the rep.

A second signal has to agree with it: your hips must rise off the floor, measured as how high they lift above your ankles. Both signals have to reach the far position together and come back together, or the rep isn't counted.

Counting only starts once you've been lying in position on the floor for a moment, so getting down onto your back adds no rep. It stops if you get up mid-set. It resumes once you're back down in position. The camera also wants a steady look at your shoulders and hips.

FAQ

Where do I put my phone for glute bridges?

Sideways (landscape) on the floor, about 2 meters (6 feet) away, with you lying side-on and your whole body, head to feet, in the frame.

Does pumping my legs count as a glute bridge?

No. Straightening and bending your legs with your hips on the floor doesn't count. Your hips have to rise off the floor and then lower all the way back down.

Is there a one-leg version of this counter?

Yes, the single-leg glute bridge has its own counter. This one reads both legs together.
